Year 7 Boys Win in National Schools Football.Posted on: 15th Nov 2018
Congratulations to our Year 7 Boys football team, who recently travelled to Surrey to play Glynn School in the 3rd round of the England School Cup.
Despite the long journey, the boys were focused and prepared as they faced the opposition. SMMA took the lead through a controlled half–volley from Rahmel Ellington. Glynn School immediately responded with 2 quick goals, and stayed on top for large periods of the first half. SMMA then equalised through Tristan Baker – scoring directly from a corner so the scores were level as they went in for half–time.
The second half was an extremely tight affair. SMMA took the lead through a sensational Michael Owen 1998 World Cup–esque goal from Rahmel. Glynn's School reacted by committing more men forward, which our SMMA defence efficiently dealt with. A quick break on the counter–attack resulted in another goal for Rahmel, securing his hat trick. With 10 minutes left, Glynn's School were awarded a contentious penalty which could have made for a nervy finish. However, Rudy Grace dived to his right hand side to pull off an amazing save, from which James Graney played a brilliant through–ball for Rahmel to score his fourth of the game! With 2 minutes left, in line with the theme of the game, Rahmel scored another goal on the counter giving SMMA a resounding 6-2 victory. It was a fantastic team performance from SMMA, with each member of the team having an exceptional game. Brilliant work, Year 7 Boys!
