Congratulations to the Class of 2022

Press Release

We are delighted to announce that St Mary Magdalene Academy Sixth Form has continued its tradition of excellent A Level outcomes. This year’s cohort was the first to sit public examinations since 2019, with the last two years’ cancelled due to the Covid pandemic. The students have achieved phenomenal results and surpassed the results from the last time the examinations were sat in 2019 with 40% of grades at A* and A.

Daniel Goward, Head of Sixth Form says ‘Our Year 13s have faced great challenges during their A Levels. Their time in Sixth Form was disrupted by the global pandemic and they are the first cohort to sit public exams in three years. They have faced these difficult times with tenacity and grit that is admirable. I sometimes wonder how I would have coped in their shoes and I'm not so sure I would have navigated these uncertainties as skilfully. Despite the challenges, they have achieved wonderful things and go on to begin a vast array of courses in world-leading institutions.’

It is difficult to single out individuals in a year with so many successes and some students have yet to decide on their preferred Uni, but this is the story so far:

Ranya achieved A*A*A and will study Psychology and Linguistics at Jesus College, Oxford; Keira achieved A*A*A*A* and has gained a place to read Engineering at Corpus Christi College, Cambridge and Luke with A*A*A will study Geography at Mansfield College, Oxford. Other students, waiting on pending results, may join that 2022 Oxbridge cohort.

Zakaria (A*A*A*A*), takes up a place to study Medicine at QMUL. Gohena achieved A*A*A and will read Natural Sciences at UCL; she is joined at UCL by Aisha (AAA) who will read Psychology.

Once again, we have a great contingent of pupils with stellar results heading off to study at King’s College London. With 14 A* and A grades between them, Ian is reading Maths, Yasmin Psychology, Rashanne Psychology, Ethan Astrophysics, Che International Management, and Jenifer Chemistry.

Noah achieved A*A*AB and will read Aeronautics and Astronautics at Southampton University. Oisin (A*AA) and Malcolm (A*AAA) are both heading off to the University of Warwick to study Engineering and Economics respectively. William achieved A*A*A and Hughie A*A*AB to read Biotechnology at Imperial College London. Brooke (A*AB) is reading Sociology at the University of Leeds, and Meron with AAA goes to the University of Bath to study Biochemistry.

Huge congratulations also go to Georgia who achieved A*A*A and has gained a place on the highly competitive Deloitte BrightStart Degree Apprenticeship Programme.

Headteacher Vicky Linsley says ‘What a phenomenal collection of grades, congratulations Class of 2022! Across the board, our A Level students succeeded in gaining places at almost exclusively Russell Group Universities and Oxbridge. It is brilliant to see the diversity of degree subjects; I have no doubt that these determined young people will go on to do great things. Congratulations should also go to Parents and Carers, Teachers and our Governors and Trustees, who all play their part in this success story.’
