GCSE Results 2020

Once again the Academy is celebrating a year of academic success in the GCSE examinations.

For the third year running, over 80% of pupils have achieved the benchmark 4+ (the old C grade) in English and mathematics. Over 60% have secured the challenging 5+ grade and over 30% achieved 7+ (the old A grade, A* and A**).

As ever, our Science and Language Faculties have turned out phenomenal grades and in a year of such astonishing changes we were delighted that both these areas saw subject grades moved up by Ofqual from the Centre Assessed Grades. Mandarin completed another year with 100% 7- 9 grades; Biology, Chemistry, French, German and Physics all had 100% at grade 4-9 (C-A** grades).

There were so many individual successes that we have selected just a few: Congratulations to Aisha, Luke and Sina who all achieved eight grade 9s (A**) and one 8 (A*) and Finn, Furkan, Gohena, Ian and Malcolm who all achieved seven (A**) grades.

Headteacher, Vicky Linsley, said

’This has been a tough year for pupils in the class of 2020. Before the lockdown the vast majority of them were in school working from 7am, diligently preparing for the examinations they were expecting to take in the summer term. I have no doubt that they would have achieved this success in the examination hall and I am incredibly proud of all the pupils who have worked so hard throughout their GCSE courses.

I am also thankful to the dedicated staff team and supportive parents who make it happen. We are a strong community and it is only by working together as a team that we turn out these excellent results year after year.’

Andrew Caspari, Chair of Governors, said ‘The Governors are very proud of the students’ achievements, they have been rewarded for their hard work. The results are also a tribute to the hugely dedicated staff at the Academy who have nurtured and supported our Year 11s throughout their time at St Mary Magdalene.’
