The Curriculum

Our curriculum at SMMA Primary is designed to offer pupils a rich learning experience that will support and further their academic, personal, social, emotional and physical development.

From Reception to Year 6, the curriculum has ambition at its heart with a cumulative and coherent approach that builds pupil’s knowledge and skills as they progress through the primary school and into secondary. Within our curriculum, there are frequent exciting opportunities to visit many of the national museums and monuments that London has to offer and we view this as an important part of inspiring pupils to actively engage with their learning. We also value the importance of frequent recall opportunities and effective assessment, and thus have within our curriculum carefully planned opportunities to use both in order to maximise learning capacity for our pupils and facilitate success for all.

In Reception Class, the curriculum is written around the seven areas of learning and development and the attached educational programmes as set out in the Statutory Framework for the EYFS, whilst also having within it strong links to the Year 1 curriculum and beyond. This ensures that each pupil’s learning journey whilst at SMMA Primary is a linear seven-year programme.

In KS1 and 2 each pupil studies the core curriculum subjects of English, Maths, RE and Science, and the wider curriculum subjects of History, Geography, PE, Mandarin, Art, Design Technology, Computing and PSHE. As a Christian school, we follow the London Diocesan Board of Schools curriculum for RE, whilst using the National Curriculum as a base to build upon for all other subjects.

We are a vibrant, purposeful and caring community of learning who value kindness and high expectations for each and every one of our pupils. An integral part of this is having a broad and ambitious curriculum that nurtures, challenges and inspires all to flourish as successful future citizens.
