Once the Academy is open, this area of the website will be edited by our students.

In the meantime, this is a good place to underline the fact that while our subject areas will be those of the National Curriculum and our specialism will be Humanities and Global Citizenship, we don't believe that is the be-all and end-all of education.

At St Mary Magdalene Academy, every student will be offered extra opportunities to develop their own interests, skills and pastimes. We will have a slightly longer school day and slightly longer term times to give us the scope to provide enrichment and extension activities which will be built into the school day itself – rather than just bolted onto the end of each day.

Every week, each student will take part in their chosen activities, such as...

Sport – football, basketball, athletics, table tennis, fitness training

Community activities – community service, United Nations Debating Society, Duke of Edinburgh Awards

Additional languages – community languages, Chinese and additional European languages

Creative learning and aesthetics – art, drama, dance, technology, cookery

Students will generally take part in these activities in mixed-age groups, which will help social development and foster the sense of community in the Academy. Sports coaches, artists in residence, dance teachers and other specialists will join the Academy team to help co-ordinate these activities.

"We enter a variety of tournaments such as cricket, football, rounders and other sports. It's a great experience playing for the school, but it's not always about winning, but having a great time. However, we have a lot of trophies in the cabinet. Each Thursday we have special PE where trainers come in and teach us different sports. I'm looking forward to working with the trainer when I'm in Year 7." Charlie, Year 6
