Marika Farrugia
Director of Learning: Humanities
Marika Farrugia joined St Mary Magdalene's Academy in April 2007. Previous to this she enjoyed a successful period as Curriculum Manager of Humanities at Raine's Foundation School in Tower Hamlets. While she was there, Ofsted reported that both her management and leadership skills were very good. She also enjoyed a secondment as Assistant Headteacher.
Marika has worked in one other inner city church school, as well as a state school as Head of History.
Marika's thoughts on her role:
"I'm extremely excited not only about being part of a team which is involved in the early stages of setting up the Academy, with the challenges that creates, but also in leading the Academy forward in its specialism in humanities and global citizenship. I will be very keen to ensure that our students have a greater understanding of their roles and responsibilities as citizens locally, nationally and internationally. Also, that we approach with sensitivity key issues such as social justice, diversity, conflict resolution and human rights.
All these issues will permeate the curriculum, and our Christian perspective will ensure that students are taught the importance of participating and serving the community."
Marika takes on the role of Director of Learning for Humanities and will also lead the whole-school development in external links with local, national and international organizations.
