Dear Parents and Carers
Be Caught Reading!
We are looking to add a new display to the Primary Library and would like your help. During the summer holidays, please if you can, take a photo of your child reading a book in whatever location they happen to be in. Please bring the photos into the Academy in September so that we can make the display. The more photos the better!
Connected to this, Islington Libraries are again running the Summer Reading Challenge over the holidays. It’s a great way for children aged 4-11 to keep reading over the summer. For further details contact your local Islington library – Central Library at Fieldway Crescent (off Holloway Road) is the closest to the Academy, or visit the Summer Reading Challenge website.
Learning to ride!
Islington Council are running FREE cycle training courses this summer holiday. The courses are run by fully accredited cycle training instructors and there are three courses on offer:
Learning to ride (age 6-10) - suitable for beginners
Level 1 Off-road (age 7-12)
Level 2 Introduction to on-road cycling
For further details and so to sign up contact William Pountney (Cyclying Officer) 020 7527 4082
Senegal
Thank you to all those who sent in clothes for Senegal. In the very near future they will be put to very good use.
Re-Cycling Uniform
If you have items of uniform that no longer fit your child or that you no longer need, please can you send them into the primary office at the beginning of September. ‘Friends Of’ would then like to re-cycle the items and will be having a ‘Uniform Sale’ in the playground.
Staff News
Paz Martinez, who has been with us on long-term supply covering Mrs Shepherd’s and Miss Randall’s maternity leave in Year 2, leaves us today. Miss Martinez is taking up a class teacher position at New North Community School. I know that Year 2 parents will join me in thanking Miss Martinez and in wishing her well in her new school.
Anita Hamilton, currently our teaching assistant in Y1, is leaving the Academy at the end of this term. Anita has been at the Academy, and before that the Primary School, for many years and many of you will know her. Anita is having a career change and will be taking up the position of Receptionist at Holloway Secondary School in September. I know that you will join with me and rest of the staff in thanking her for all she has contributed over the years and in wishing her all the very best in her new job.
The End of the Year
The school year ends today and children should return to the Academy on Monday September 6th. We wish all of our Year 6 pupils all the very best as they transfer onto their secondary education. On behalf of the Primary staff I would like to take this opportunity of thanking you for your continued support during this year and in wishing you a safe and happy holiday.
Yours sincerely
