Staying safe online

All students and parents are reminded that in line with Academy policy: “No students should post images or video footage of either Academy staff, students, images of the Academy or the Academy name on any Internet site without prior written consent from the Principal or Vice Principal.”
Staying safe online is serious and we encourage parents to help their children stay safe when using the Internet. Here are some helpful guidelines…
Do not give out any personal information (i.e where you live, your school, email address, picture, telephone number, friends and family details).
Make sure your profile in the forums or chat does not include any personal information about you, your family and friends. Create and use an online nickname.
Be careful – people online may not be who they say they are, no matter how convincing they may sound or how much you want to trust them.
Respect yourself and others online.
Report to a moderator and tell another adult if something makes you worried or uncomfortable on a site.
Never arrange to meet someone offline, as this can be very dangerous.
Be aware that too much time spent in chatrooms is not good. Try to maintain a healthy balance between online and offline life.
Internet addiction can lead to physical problems such as eyestrain, backaches, and carpal tunnel syndrome. Take a break, once in a while!
