St Mary Magdalene Academy is calling on local people and businesses to support a fundraising campaign for its partner school in Senegal. All funds raised will be used to build new classrooms and a much needed library.

Buy a Brick was launched on Thursday 11 March at the annual International Performance Evening when students and teachers took to the stage to perform songs and dances from around the world. Food with an international flavour was followed by a fundraising auction with many exciting prizes generously donated by local businesses.

“We have amazing facilities here at St Mary Magdalene Academy. I am delighted that students are so keen to support their partner school,” says Principal Paul Hollingum. “Last year two teachers from Senegal visited the Academy. We were able to show them what life is like in Islington and they told us about life in Senegal.”

Arsenal Football Club kindly donated a framed photograph signed by Arsenal first-team players, complete with authenticity certificate. Local Arsenal fans were invited to join the auction.
