St Mary Magdalene Academy is sponsored by the London Diocesan Board for Schools (LDBS), the education arm of the Church of England in London. Their educational vision draws from the deep well of learning and personal development found in the Christian tradition.
For more than 300 years, the Church has sponsored education in Islington and the new Academy is the latest expression. Because their values and vision spring from a Christian ethos, they aim to develop an inclusive, non-sectarian atmosphere in which students of different faith traditions and worldviews learn to share their perspectives with respect and tolerance.
The LDBS aims to provide a first-class, all-round education for children and young people across the capital, whether they are from a Christian background, other faith or no faith. It is committed to supporting and nurturing the 149 Church of England schools (including academies) across the Diocese of London.
While faith schools form a third of all schools nationally, they accounted for 60 per cent of the top primary schools in the latest performance league tables for primary schools.
