On the ground
30 August 2006
Our new Academy is rising from the earth! The land has been cleared, the foundations laid and now the new classrooms, laboratories and sports halls are climbing into view on the Islington skyline.
The vision for a new Church of England secondary school in Islington has been kept alive for decades and a huge team of builders, engineers and architects are now turning the dream into reality.
In the first phase of the building programme the children of the existing St Mary Magdalene Primary School will move into new facilities comprising the Primary department of the new Academy. They will have their own entrance to the Academy from Lough Road. At the same time, in September 07, we will be opening brand new state of the art facilities, indoors and out, for our new Year 7 intake.
With the primary children having moved from their present site on Liverpool Road, during the Autumn of 07 and Spring of 08, the present primary school will be knocked down and this part of the new site will then become home to the second phase of the new Academy buildings which will open in September 08. This will include the Academy's new Sports Hall. |
