  Rhian Roberts

What type of governor are you? Co-opted.

Why are you a governor of St Mary Magdalene Academy? I'm delighted at the prospect of a new school for the borough and I want it to be the best it can be. The commitment of parents is vital to its success, so I thought I'd put my money where my mouth is and stand for parent governor.

Which subject at school did you love best – and why? English. Making up stories and putting on plays was a big part of my childhood. When I got to school and found this was actually part of lessons, I was in my element.

What's your favourite book of all time? Gilead by Marilynne Robinson is right up there along with The Road by Cormac McCarthy. I also love poetry, Keats and RS Thomas being particular favourites.

Who was your most memorable / inspiring teacher at school? I had some wonderful teachers so I'm spoilt for choice. "Curly Bill" merits a mention – he was my English teacher in the sixth form who inspired my lifelong love of Keats. I couldn't leave out Mr Viv Morgan, who taught geology and put up with a very boisterous but enthusiastic class who would have done anything for him.

What's your favourite: chocolate or ice cream? A warm chocolate brownie with vanilla ice cream.

What are your hopes for St Mary Magdalene Academy? I hope it becomes a place that changes lives, with passionate pupils, fulfilled teachers and delighted parents. I hope it has peacefulness at its centre, honours faith and tries to be wise and just in its treatment of everyone.
