Kathryn Davies
What type of governor are you? Co-opted.
Why are you a governor of St Mary Magdalene Academy? I have over 15 years of experience as a businesswoman for a major international company, and now want to use the skills I have gained in helping to create an outstanding secondary school in Islington.
Which subject at school did you love best and why? German. Learning to speak a language fluently has helped me make many friends abroad and it opened the doors to the poetry and literature of the country, which offset the "drier" subjects I was studying economics and maths.
What's your favourite book of all time? The Oxford Book of English Verse.
Who was your most memorable / inspiring teacher at school? Frau Turley. She was a German lady who had married a British soldier after the war; and she was larger than life, uncompromising and extremely committed.
What's your favourite: chocolate or ice cream? Milk chocolate, eaten on the sofa, with a glass of cold milk and a film on the TV.
What are your hopes for St Mary Magdalene Academy? Students find this an inspiring place where they dare to excel; and leave it both able and willing to contribute to the community in which we live.
