Under–15 Girls Football Team Win Top–of–the–Table Clash!Posted on: 10th Jan 2019
SMMA 4 – Hurlingham Academy 2
Congratulations to our Under–15 Girls Football team on their outstanding December victory against the previously unbeaten Hurlingham Academy, taking them to the top of the table.
Our team scored early goals to gain a seemingly comfortable 2-0 lead, but this was halved after a counter attack and a lapse of concentration at the back. But the last kick of the first half saw Saffron grab a vital third goal, so we went in 3-1 up.
The second half saw Hurlingham come out firing on all cylinders, and we struggled to get a grip on the ball: a goal was conceded. Meanwhile, Zoe dramatically hit the floor with cramp and had to be subbed, while Julia dropped into centre back where she did solid work. In the closing minutes, Deborah battled for possession, played a neat one-two and delivered the best pass of the game for skipper Saffron to coolly slot home – sending the girls to the summit of the league and dreaming of an appearance at finals day.
Player of the match was Deborah, for her high intensity and battling determination, grabbing an assist for the all–important fourth goal. Special mention goes to Hannah who pulled off three stunning saves in the second half.
Congratulations to Lily-belle, Zoe, Hannah, Miriam, Julia, Kimiya, Saffron, Deborah, Caitlin and Yabsira on a tight game and a great victory!
