SEN & Disabilities

Special Educational Needs at St Mary Magdalene Academy – we seek to promote and enable the participation of all our young people and take into account individual needs, inclusion at SMMA relates to all aspects of school life.

Our aim is to support pupils in overcoming barriers to learning through high-quality teaching, clear referral procedures and staff training to ensure that every pupil makes progress and thrives as a result of the personalised support of pupils with Special Educational Needs.

Our commitment to Special Educational Needs- in partnership with outside agencies the SEN team supports pupils with barriers to learning, we offer a small group literacy intervention such as the Lit Programme, in addition, academic tutors work with Year 11 pupils with their Maths and English in the run up to GCSEs.  At KS3 we have a discreet class for those pupils who may have moderate learning needs, small class teaching is heavily focused on literacy and numeracy and there is a high adult-pupil ratio of support.  In Year 9 pupils either continue into KS4 or transfer to a more appropriate setting.

Schools Information Report – this report answers some of the most frequently asked questions about the school and special educational needs.  Read the report
